Zones and Locations
This guide covers creating and managing zones and storage locations in SmartWMS.
Creating Zones
- Navigate to Warehouse → Zones
- Click + New Zone
- Configure zone settings:

- Receiving - Goods arriving from suppliers
- Storage - Main inventory storage area
- Pick - High-velocity picking area
- Staging - Temporary holding before shipping
- Shipping - Outbound shipment staging
- Returns - Returned merchandise processing
- Quarantine - Quality hold area
- Reserve - Overflow/backup storage
Creating Locations
- Navigate to Warehouse → Locations
- Click + New Location
- Fill in location details:
- Code: Unique location identifier
- Zone: Assign to a zone
- Type: Location type
- Status: Active or Inactive
- Aisle: Aisle identifier
- Rack: Rack number
- Shelf: Shelf level
- Bin: Bin position
- Max Quantity: Storage capacity
- Max Weight: Weight limit (kg)
- Max Volume: Volume limit (m³)
- ABC Class: Velocity classification
Location Types

Bulk Location Creation
Create multiple locations at once:
- Go to Warehouse → Locations
- Click Bulk Create
- Define pattern:
- Preview and create
Location Barcodes
Generate location barcodes for scanning:
- Select locations
- Click Print Labels
- Choose label format
- Print to label printer
- Code 128 (recommended)
- QR Code
- DataMatrix
Managing Locations
Edit Location:- Click on location
- Modify settings
- Save changes
- Select location
- Change status to "Inactive"
- Location won't be suggested for putaway
- Click on location
- See current inventory
- View movement history
Location Strategies
ABC Analysis:- A locations: Closest to shipping, fastest movers
- B locations: Middle distance, medium velocity
- C locations: Far from shipping, slow movers
- Heavy items at floor level
- Frequently picked items at waist height
- Light items on upper shelves
- Group related products together
