Putaway Operations

Putaway is the process of moving received goods from the receiving area to their designated storage locations.

Putaway Workflow

Goods Received → Putaway Task Created → Pick Up Items → Place in Location → Confirm

Creating Putaway Tasks

Automatic (Recommended):

• Tasks created when receiving completes
• System suggests locations based on rules

Manual:

• Go to Inbound → Putaway
• Click + New Putaway
• Select received items
• Assign locations

Executing Putaway

Using desktop:

• Go to Inbound → Putaway
• Open task
• For each item:

- View suggested location - Go to location - Place items - Confirm placement

Using mobile:

• Open Putaway module
• Select task
• Scan item
• Scan location
• Confirm quantity
• Repeat for all items

Location Suggestions

SmartWMS suggests locations based on:

• Product rules - Specific product → specific location
• Category rules - Product type → zone
• Capacity - Available space
• Consolidation - Same SKU together
• ABC class - Fast movers near shipping

Directed vs. Suggested Putaway

Suggested Putaway:

• System recommends location
• Operator can override
• More flexible

Directed Putaway:

• System assigns location
• Operator must follow
• More controlled

Configure in Settings → Operations.

Split Putaway

When one location can't hold all:

• System suggests multiple locations
• Place portion in first location
• Confirm partial quantity
• Continue to next location
• Repeat until complete

Putaway Optimization

Tips for efficiency:

• Batch by zone - Group items going to same area
• Travel path - System orders by location sequence
• Full pallets first - Handle bulk items efficiently
• Pick locations - Replenish forward pick areas

Track putaway performance:

Access via Reports → Operations.
