Picking Operations

Picking is the process of retrieving items from storage locations to fulfill orders.

Picking Methods

Single Order Picking:

• One order at a time
• Best for large orders
• Simple, minimal errors

Batch Picking:

• Multiple orders together
• Pick same SKU once for all orders
• Higher efficiency

Wave Picking:

• Groups of orders by criteria
• Time-based waves
• Carrier-based waves

Zone Picking:

• Pickers assigned to zones
• Orders pass through zones
• High volume operations

Creating Pick Tasks

Automatic:

• Order reaches "Ready to Pick" status
• System creates pick task
• Task appears in queue

Manual:

• Go to Outbound → Picking
• Click + New Pick
• Select orders
• Create tasks

Executing Picks

Using desktop:

• Go to Outbound → Picking
• Open pick task
• For each line:

- See location and quantity - Go to location - Pick items - Confirm pick

Using mobile:

• Open Pick module
• Select task
• Scan location barcode
• Scan item barcode
• Enter/confirm quantity
• Move to next item
• Complete task

Pick Path Optimization

SmartWMS optimizes pick routes:

• Orders locations by aisle/bin sequence
• Minimizes travel distance
• Groups nearby picks together
• Considers picker's current location

Handling Exceptions

Short Pick (not enough stock):

• Pick available quantity
• Mark remaining as short
• System alerts for backorder/reallocation

Wrong Item:

• Scan correct item only
• System prevents wrong picks
• Report location discrepancy

Damaged Item:

• Skip damaged unit
• Pick from alternate location
• Report damage for adjustment

Pick Confirmation

Levels of confirmation:

Configure in Settings → Operations.

Performance Tracking

Monitor picker productivity:

View in Operations → Productivity.
