Pack and ship orders to customers

Shipping Operations

The final steps of order fulfillment: packing orders and shipping to customers.

Packing Process

  • Go to Outbound → Packing
  • Select picked order
  • Start packing:
For each item:
  • Scan item to verify
  • Place in package
  • System confirms pack
Complete package:
  • Enter dimensions
  • Enter weight
  • Print packing slip
  • Seal and label

Package Types

Configure package types:

Multi-Package Shipments

For orders requiring multiple packages:

  • Start with first package
  • Pack items, close package
  • Click Add Package
  • Continue packing
  • Each package gets tracking number

Carrier Integration

SmartWMS integrates with carriers:

CarrierServices
DHLExpress, Freight
UPSGround, Express
FedExGround, Priority
USPSFirst Class, Priority
Rate Shopping:
  • Enter package details
  • View rates from all carriers
  • Select best option

Generating Labels

  • Select carrier and service
  • Click Generate Label
  • System gets tracking number
  • Print shipping label
  • Apply to package
Label Formats:
  • 4x6 thermal (standard)
  • 8.5x11 paper (laser)
  • PDF for email

Shipping Manifest

End-of-day manifest:

  • Go to Outbound → Shipping
  • Click Create Manifest
  • Select shipments
  • Generate manifest
  • Hand to carrier pickup

Tracking & Notifications

For customers:
  • Automatic tracking email
  • Real-time status updates
  • Delivery confirmation
For warehouse:
  • Shipment status dashboard
  • Exception alerts
  • Carrier performance

Shipping Reports

Track shipping performance:

Access via Reports → Shipping.

Returns Processing

When returns arrive:

  • Go to Inbound → Returns
  • Create RMA
  • Receive returned items
  • Inspect quality
  • Return to stock or dispose
