Categories and Attributes

Organize your product catalog with categories and extend product data with custom attributes.

Product Categories

Categories create a hierarchical structure for products:

Electronics
├── Computers
│   ├── Laptops
│   └── Desktops
├── Phones
│   ├── Smartphones
│   └── Accessories
└── Audio

Creating Categories

Go to Inventory → Categories
Click + New Category
Enter:

- Name - Code - Parent category (optional) - Description

Category Hierarchy

Create sub-categories:

Select parent category
Click Add Sub-category
Enter details
New category appears under parent

Assigning Products to Categories

Single Product:

Open product
Select category from dropdown
Save

Bulk Assignment:

Select multiple products
Click Bulk Edit
Set category
Apply

Custom Attributes

Extend product data with custom fields:

Attribute Types:

Type	Example

Text	Brand name, Model
Number	Warranty months
Date	Expiry date
Dropdown	Size (S/M/L/XL)
Checkbox	Fragile (Yes/No)

Creating Attributes

Go to Configuration → Product Attributes
Click + New Attribute
Configure:

- Name: Attribute label - Code: Internal identifier - Type: Data type - Required: Yes/No - Default value

Attribute Groups

Group related attributes:

Create group (e.g., "Dimensions")
Add attributes to group:

- Length - Width - Height - Weight

Group appears as section in product form

Category-Specific Attributes

Assign attributes to categories:

Open category
Click Attributes tab
Select required attributes
Products in this category will show these fields

Example:

"Clothing" category → Size, Color, Material
"Electronics" category → Voltage, Warranty

Filtering by Attributes

Use attributes in product search:

Go to Inventory → Catalog
Click Filters
Select attribute filters
Apply to narrow results

Reporting on Attributes

Include attributes in reports:

Go to Reports → Inventory
Configure report columns
Add attribute fields
Generate report
