Setting Up Your First Warehouse
After creating your account, the next step is to configure your warehouse structure. This includes creating zones, locations, and defining your storage layout.
Understanding Warehouse Structure
SmartWMS uses a hierarchical structure:
Warehouse
├── Zone (e.g., Receiving, Storage, Shipping)
│ ├── Aisle
│ │ ├── Rack
│ │ │ ├── Shelf
│ │ │ │ └── Bin (Location)
Step 1: Create Your Warehouse
- Navigate to Warehouse → Warehouses
- Click + New Warehouse
- Fill in the details:
Step 2: Create Zones
Zones help organize your warehouse by function:
- Go to Warehouse → Zones
- Click + New Zone
- Common zone types:
| Zone Type | Purpose |
|---|
| Receiving | Incoming goods staging |
|---|---|
| Storage | Main inventory storage |
| Picking | Fast-moving items for order fulfillment |
| Shipping | Outbound staging area |
| Returns | Returned goods processing |
| Quarantine | Items pending inspection |
Step 3: Create Locations (Bins)
Locations are the specific spots where products are stored:
- Go to Warehouse → Locations
- Click + New Location
- Configure:
Location Naming Convention
We recommend a structured naming format:
[Aisle]-[Rack]-[Shelf]-[Bin]
Example: A-01-02-03
- A = Aisle A
- 01 = Rack 1
- 02 = Shelf 2
- 03 = Bin 3
